-
Climate and clothing: Tegucigalpa's climate is fresh and
- springlike--tropical during the day and cool at night--except from mid-November to February, when the days are chilly.
- March, April, and May are hot and dry. The rainy season begins
- in mid-May and continues through mid-December. Heavy showers
- fall once or twice a day with heavy rains ending in
- mid-September. Bring lightweight clothes, a sweater or light
- coat, and rainwear.
-

-
Customs: Americans must have a passport. Tourist visas are
- strongly recommended but not required. The Honduran Embassy or
- consulates issue visas and answer queries regarding tourism in
- Honduras. In general, no immunizations are required for entry.
-

-
Health: Water is not potable, must be boiled and filtered,
- and often is in short supply during the dry season. Clean
- fruits and vegetables carefully, and cook meats until well done.
- The main health hazards include rabies and various intestinal
- diseases, including typhoid, hepatitis, parasites, and
- dysentery. Take a malaria suppressant if traveling outside
- Tegucigalpa.
-

-
Telecommunications: Local telephone service is adequate.
- Long-distance calls within the country and to the United States
- can be dialed directly. Worldwide service is available, and
- connections are usually good. Tegucigalpa is one standard time
- zone behind eastern standard time and does not observe daylight
- saving time.
-

-
Transportation: Eastern, Continental, TACA, and the Honduran
- national airline, Tan Sahsa, serve Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sola,
- and La Ceiba from Miami, New Orleans, and Houston, as well as
- cities throughout Mexico and Central America. LACSA serves San
- Pedro Sula from San Jose, Costa Rica, and Cancun, Mexico.
- Limited rail service is confined to the Caribbean coast. In the
- cities, crowded buses, microbuses, and taxis are available.
- Taxis are not metered, so check the fare first.
-

-
Tourist attractions: Honduras offers pre-Columbian Mayan
- ruins at Copan, pristine beaches on the north shore, rolling
- scenery with volcanoes and mountains, and sailing and diving
- off the Bay Islands.
-

-
Local holidays: Businesses and shops may be closed on the
- following holidays:
-

-
New Years Day, January 1; Holy Thursday*; Good Friday*; Day of the
- Americas, April 14; Labor Day, May 1; Independence Day, September 15;
- Birthday of Francisco Morazan, October 3; Columbus Day, October 12;
- Armed Forces Day, October 21; Christmas Day, December 25.
